So so so soooooooo happy and pleased with how my Sailor 1911 writes. I got it in a medium and it wrote like a sharpie. Too broad! Enter @thenibtailor and he fixed it! Thank you so much JC! Yup! It's CJ. 😁
My wife and I really enjoyed meeting you at Bertram's. Your pleasantry helped win over my wife and she had a chance to see me around my passion.....fountain pens. For years, she's seen the pens in my home office or my taking them to work. She had no idea of the complexity. Your explaining the adjustments to me today, also educated her! Therefore, I just wanted to say THANKS! The fountain pen community now has another advocate....My Wife. Take care and thanks again, B. B. Craig
Bertram’s Inkwell In-Store Event
Hey JC, the burgundy Montblanc Solitaire you did for me at Bert's is working great, can't put it down this morning. One thing that really stuck with me though when you were grinding it and I was trying your testers is the architect grind. It seemed to have all the character of a cursive italic, but without the additional feedback. I would argue it had a little extra character, there was just something I really liked about it.
Bellevue, WA
Not sure if you see these, but wanted to tell you that I'm still enjoying the MB 149 you modified for me. It's just. Splendid writer and I appreciate the delicate work you did! Have a great weekend.

Nib Tailor who I shall now call the “Sailor Savior” since he saved the nib of a King of Pen that the prior owner had filed down a bit too much!
Very thankful for your skillful work in saving the nibs of those two pens you’ve worked on.
Nibs 101 Workshop at Chicago Pen Show
Hi JC!
The workshop was very fun!
I learned a lot from working with a nib on my own and the guidance was always well explained and demonstrated.

JC,
Just wanted to let you know I received the Pen over the weekend, and it looks splendid. Writes very well, and I'm enjoying it a lot! Thank you again for correcting that so quickly.
Regards,
J
Baltimore Pen Show
Hi JC,
Just a quick follow-up:
Thanks for your help a couple weeks ago (at Bert’s shop) where you opened up the crashed tines on my old classic (made in W. Germany) Pelikan M800, and you ground me a lovely crisp architect out of a new broad M600 nib. Then, again, yesterday, you closed up a splayed nib on a NOS Pelikan M300 that I have struggled with since I bought it over a year ago…
SF Pen Show
Hi JC!
Thank you so much for the Right Foot Oblique Reversible Sevledge grind on my Leonardo Momento Magico from the SF Pen Show. It's exactly what I wanted and I've been having a blast with it. I'm really looking forward to the next time I can catch you in person.
Nib Smoothing Workshop in London, Ontario, Canada
Thank you so very much for your excellent nib tuning workshop! I felt as though I had gotten my money's worth within the first 10 minutes. Your hands-on workshop was very fun, and your information was delivered with clear, well-organized details that will ensure that I know what I'm doing and why when I adjust my pens. The nib tuning kit was most appreciated. I highly recommend your workshop to novices and seasoned fountain pen enthusiasts alike.
DC Pelikan Hubs
A highlight from the Pelikan Hub was getting this music nib up and writing nicely. JC @thenibtailor was so patient with tuning it to write for my hand. I was super impressed he inspected my writing as well as the nib to see where things were going wrong.
Writing with the nib these past 2 days has been a completely different and pleasant experience! I'm thrilled.
Fountain Pen Day at Penny Post
So, we know JC to be a killer nibmeister, as seen with the amazing Naginata grind he did on a recent pen of mine. But then I asked him to simply tune a black ruthenium layered nib because it wasn't writing well. This nib has become my daily writer because it starts immediately every time. What I thought might be a simple smooth and tune is actually what JC perfects each time he works on a nib. Thank you, dear friend, for making my writing experience!
A podcast by pen makers for pen makers, customers, pen enthusiasts and the maker community. In this episode, we have a great chat with JC Ament, The Nib Tailor......and other stuff.
You can listen to Episode 28 (and other fun pen maker shenanigans) here.
A mechanical, not unpleasant buzz ran underneath the constant talk of vermilion ink and vintage Watermans. The sound came from grinding, as craftspeople shaped fountain pen nibs for customers. Individuality and customization matter to pen aficionados, said nibmeister JC Ament of Arlington, Va., whose company is called Nib Tailor. “A fountain pen is obsolete technology,” he said...
“I’ve had this pen in regular use since returning from San Francisco, and it puts a smile on my face every time I use it. It’s that nice, and I made it even nicer, for me, with the addition of an Architect grind on the Medium steel Jowo nib I chose when purchasing this pen.
When I sat down with JC Ament, aka the Nib Tailor, I knew I wasn’t going with one of my standards (Stub, Cursive Italic, Needlepoint,) and wanted something cool, befitting this cool pen. I settled on a traditional Architect grid, and JC absolutely nailed it…

your architect nib grind is my absolute favorite pen to write with every day!!!

Man, spent the morning with this nib, and it’s killer. Great work, my friend.

I wanted to reach out and thank you again for working on my pens last week at Bertram's.
I love what you did, but most especially the Architect RT nib! I can't stop using it.
I look forward to seeing how your business continues to grow.

Very nice meeting you today and thank you again very much for saving my Visconti for me.
Reno, NV
The Nib Tailor worked on two pens for me. One was a medium-to-an-architect grind, and the other was tuning of an extra fine Sailor nib that was so scratchy and dry, I was ready to toss it! It is now smooth and so much better! Better ink flow. JC is responsive and accommodating. I would not hesitate to send more pens to him! Thanks, JC!

THANKS for skilled nibsmithing AND inky courtesy
Thx for being one of the good ones
LOVE my nibs, which is all I really meant to say in the first place. Plus you were fun to hang out with and appropriately ocd (in a good natured way) about getting the grinds right!
Wädenswil, Switzerland
You’re a genius!
The nib is fantastic.
Very fine, but not scratchy at all and still wet.
I’m loving it!
Thanks!!

“JC worked on my Armando Simoni Club Nefertiti fountain pen with a #8 nib at Bertram's Inkwell about 10 days ago. I was reluctant since I've only used a nib meister once years ago (not JC) and my fine point was converted to a medium point by mistake. However, JC did an exceptional job on this pen. It was a very wet nib that wrote a medium/broad line. I tried various inks without much improvement….
…JC also figured out a problem with another ASC that had dried ink inside.
Prices were very very reasonable. The expertise was exceptional and I will definitely only use JC for future nib tailoring.. Thanks again”

“Thank you, JC. I appreciate all the care you took in taming the nib for me. I’ll definitely look forward to seeing you at the Baltimore show if I don’t see you back at Bertram’s beforehand.”

…2 years in, I’m always excited to write and draw with this pen. I find it especially enjoyable on days in which I just want to carry one pen and practice some modern calligraphy or play around with my writing style as the mood changes. ☺️
If you have a pen that needs its nib adjusted or any grinds, I highly recommend you stop by JC @TheNibTailor’s table.”
